From antiques aficionados and vintage collectors to flea market foragers and yard sale junkies, nearly everyone can find something to love at Bargain Lovers’ Weekend this Friday, Saturday and Sunday. In anticipation of this weekend's citywide yard sale, we sought bargain hunting advice from two local collectors who have made a life out of tracking down hidden treasures: Sharon and Rich Spencer of Spencer’s Ferndale Vintage.
If the world’s best car shows pair rare automobiles with remarkable locations (think the Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance on California’s Central Coast or Retromobile in the heart of Paris), it’s time to add another to the list: Ferndale Concours on Main. This Sunday, Ferndale's famously well-preserved Victorian Main Street becomes a dream backdrop for some of the West Coast’s most exceptional vintage motorcars, as well as restored firetrucks, motorcycles, military vehicles and more.
It’s hard not to smile when you walk into the colorful world of Gathered Handmade in Ferndale, where saturated, spirit-lifting hues, from bubblegum pink and turquoise blue to mint green and marigold yellow, grace nearly every nook and cranny. The vibrant vintage market, which opened early last year, is the perfect fit for a Main Street lined with Painted Ladies - and for owner and local artist Andra Stringer, whose personal style gravitates toward the whimsical, eclectic and bright.
Looking for the perfect family activity to kick off summer? Ferndale Rep’s production of “Disney’s Beauty and the Beast” is the smash hit of the season - and showing for just two more weekends! Don't miss what the Mad River Union calls “a show with a lot of heart and a ton of magic."
